How to share a ChatGPT response with your team

2026-10-09 · 4 min read

To share a ChatGPT response with your team, copy the response as markdown, paste it into sharemd.net and select Share. Send the read-only link in Slack, email or your tracker. Teammates open a rendered page in the browser, with no account and nothing to install.

This guide walks through the steps, then covers how to get clean markdown out of the chat, what to check before sending, and which link to give to whom.

Steps

  1. Copy the response from ChatGPT. Use the copy control on the response, or select the text; the next section explains how to keep the markdown intact.
  2. Open sharemd.net in a new tab. The editor opens directly.
  3. Paste the response into the editor and switch to Preview to confirm that headings, lists, tables and code blocks look right.
  4. Add a title if the response does not start with one. A # heading works, or a frontmatter block with title:. The title is what teammates see in the link preview.
  5. Select Share and copy the read-only link.
  6. Post the link where your team works. In Slack and similar tools the link unfurls with the document title, a short description and a sharemd.net card.

Getting markdown, not flattened text

ChatGPT writes its answers in markdown and displays them already formatted. What lands on your clipboard depends on how you copy. A copy control on the response or a selection of the rendered text can produce either the markdown source or formatted text, and the result can vary between the web app, the desktop apps and their versions.

A quick check: paste into the sharemd.net editor and look at the left side. If you see ##, ** and fenced code blocks, you have markdown. If you see plain paragraphs with the structure gone, the copy produced formatted or plain text.

When that happens, there are two reliable fallbacks:

Pasting a long answer straight into a team chat has a few predictable problems. Chat tools use their own formatting rules, so tables and headings often arrive as raw symbols; the Slack guide explains why. A long message also pushes the conversation out of view, and code blocks lose their highlighting.

A link keeps the message short and the document readable. The rendered page has syntax highlighting for 13 common languages, renders tables, task lists and footnotes, and builds a table of contents when the answer has three or more headings. If ChatGPT produced a Mermaid diagram or KaTeX math, those render too.

Before you send it

ChatGPT responses often contain things you pasted into the prompt: error logs, internal names, snippets of customer data. Read the response once more before sharing.

Shared documents are not indexed by search engines and are reachable only by whoever has the link. Anyone the link reaches can read it, though, including people it is forwarded to. Remove keys, passwords and personal data first.

It also helps to add one line of context at the top: what you asked and why the answer matters. A response without its question is harder for a teammate to judge.

Share creates two links.

sharemd.net does not have comments or real-time collaboration today. If the team needs to discuss line by line, the discussion happens in the thread where you posted the link.

When the team wants it in their own tool

Sometimes the answer belongs in a doc, an email or a wiki page rather than behind a link. Use Copy Formatted: it copies the rendered document as rich text that you can paste into email, docs or chat tools, so the formatting comes along instead of the markdown symbols.

How long it stays available

The document expires 15 days after you create it, and its content is deleted automatically. For a response that informs a decision this week, that is usually enough. If it needs to live longer, move it into your team’s permanent documentation before the badge runs out; there is no way today to extend a document.

Frequently asked questions

Do my teammates need a ChatGPT or sharemd.net account to read it?

No. The link opens a normal web page. No sharemd.net account is needed, and the reader never interacts with ChatGPT.

Does sharemd.net send the response to an AI model?

No. Content is not summarized, translated or rewritten by AI. The page shows exactly what you pasted.
