sharemd.net FAQ
sharemd.net lets you paste or write markdown and share it as a rendered link, free and with no account. Links last 15 days. These are direct answers to the questions people ask most about it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I share a markdown file online?
Open sharemd.net, paste the markdown into the editor and press Share. You get a read-only link that renders the document, plus a separate write link for editing. No account is needed.
How do I share an AI response, such as a ChatGPT or Claude answer?
Copy the answer as markdown, paste it into the editor at sharemd.net and press Share. The read-only link renders the headings, tables, code, diagrams and math, and it works the same for output from any model or agent.
Do I need an account to use sharemd.net?
No. Creating, editing, sharing, reading and exporting documents need no account and no signup.
Is sharemd.net free?
Yes. Everything it does today is free.
How long do shared links last?
Documents expire 15 days after they are created, and their content is deleted automatically. A badge shows the days left, and after expiry the link shows a page saying the document expired.
Can I delete a document or extend how long it lasts?
Not today. There is no way to delete a document before it expires, extend it, or revoke the write link. It is removed automatically at 15 days.
Who can see a document I share?
Anyone who has the link. Documents are reachable only by whoever has the link, and the link is all that is needed to read them.
Are shared documents indexed by Google?
No. Shared documents are marked noindex, so search engines do not index them.
What is the difference between the read link and the write link?
The read link shows the rendered document and cannot change it. The write link lets anyone who has it edit the document, so keep it private.
What markdown features render?
CommonMark plus tables, strikethrough, automatic links, task lists, footnotes and heading anchors. Documents with three or more headings get an automatic table of contents. Mermaid diagrams and KaTeX math also render.
Which languages get syntax highlighting?
JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, HTML/XML, CSS, JSON, SQL, Bash, YAML, Go, Rust, Java and C++. Code in other languages shows as plain monospaced text.
Does raw HTML inside markdown render?
No. Raw HTML in a document is shown as text, not rendered.
Can I export a document?
Yes. You can export the original markdown as .md, export a self-contained .html file, or use Copy Formatted to paste the rendered text into email, docs or chat tools. In the .html file, code is not syntax-highlighted and Mermaid diagrams and math stay as source. There is no PDF export.
Is my content used for AI or processed by AI?
sharemd.net does not process your content with AI. It does not summarize, translate or rewrite documents; it renders what you paste.
Can several people edit a document at the same time?
There is no real-time collaboration. Anyone with the write link can edit the document, but changes are not synced live between editors.
Can I password-protect a document?
No. There is no password or PIN protection today. Anyone with the link can read the document.
What happens to unsaved work if I close the tab?
A draft of an unsaved document is kept in your browser and offered back when you reload sharemd.net.
Is there a size limit?
Yes. The maximum document size is 500 KB.
Can I embed a document or share it as a QR code?
Yes. After sharing, you can copy an embed code that shows the read view in an iframe, or get a QR code of the read link.
What does a sharemd.net link look like when pasted in Slack or Discord?
Links pasted in Slack, Discord, X, LinkedIn and similar tools show a preview with the document title, a short description and a sharemd.net card.
