This page gives you a live markdown preview online: the source in an editor on one side, the rendered document on the other, updated as you type. Use Split view to write and check at the same time, including math, Mermaid diagrams and tables, with no account.
A preview pays off when the formatting is the hard part. Equations, sequence diagrams and wide tables are easy to get wrong in source and hard to judge without seeing them. The example above, a short technical note with a formula, a diagram and a table, shows the kind of document where a side-by-side view saves round trips.
How to use the live preview
- Choose Split view. Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+P cycles through Editor, Preview and Split.
- Write or paste markdown in the left pane.
- Watch the right pane: it re-renders as you type, so a broken formula or diagram shows up as soon as you make the mistake.
- Switch to Preview alone when you want to read the result at full width.
- Press Share when it looks right. The person who opens the link sees the same rendering.
On a phone or any screen narrower than 768px, Split is not available. Use Editor to write and Preview to check, switching with the view control.
What the preview renders
- Math with KaTeX:
$...$inline and$...$as a centered block. - Mermaid diagrams: flowcharts, sequence diagrams and the other types Mermaid supports, written in
```mermaidblocks. - Tables with alignment, task lists, footnotes and strikethrough.
- Code highlighted in 13 languages, including TypeScript, Python, Go, Rust and SQL.
- Headings with anchors, and a table of contents once there are three or more headings.
The preview follows your system’s light or dark theme; you can also change it from the menu. Raw HTML in the source is shown as text rather than rendered, which keeps the preview identical to what readers get.
From preview to a link
A preview usually ends with a question: is this ready to send? Share answers it in one step. It saves the document and gives you a read-only link for readers and a write link for anyone who should be able to edit. This is common with output from AI models, where you paste a long answer, check in the preview that its tables and code survived, and pass it on; the share AI output page covers that case. For more writing tools such as focus mode and find, see the online markdown editor. For the full list of supported and unsupported syntax, see the markdown renderer.
Frequently asked questions
Does the preview update automatically?
Yes. The rendered pane updates as you type in Split view. There is no refresh button to press.
Why can’t I see Split view on my phone?
Split needs a screen at least 768px wide. On smaller screens, switch between Editor and Preview.
Can I preview LaTeX math?
Yes, with KaTeX. Wrap inline math in single dollar signs and block math in double dollar signs.
Is the preview the same as what readers see?
Yes. The read view of a shared link uses the same rendering as the preview.
